The Acer Iconia A500 is a new tablet from Acer which offers outstanding functionality and technology, and which incorporates a 1 GHz dual core processor combined with version 3.0 of the increasingly popular android operating system, which can also be upgraded to version 3.1. The unit offers impressive imagery, and is packed with useful technology including the ability to play flash, which is the downfall of the iPad. This particular unit measures 260 mm x 177 mm wide whilst being 13 mm thick and weighing 730 g in weight.

The units display screen is 10.1 inches in size and is an LCD capacitive touch screen, which within a pixel screen resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels is able to display up to 256,000 colours. In terms of navigation unit utilises the Acer user interface, whilst also providing accelerometer, gyro and proximity sensors to automate various tasks. The unit comes with a set of stereo speakers as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack, and is available in a variety of memory sizes.

In terms of connectivity the unit comes with Wi Fi connectivity, allowing access to the net via available hotspots, whilst also incorporating Bluetooth and micro-USB connectivity. In addition the unit comes with a micro-SD card slot which enables the user to enhance the available memory capacity of the unit up to 32 GB if desired. The unit comes with GPS functionality, whilst also offering e-mail, push e-mail and instant messaging as well as a HTML browser. In addition, the unit comes with a HDMI port.

The unit comes with an array of additional functionality which include two cameras, the first being a 5.0 megapixel camera that operates at 2592 x 1944 pixels and includes auto focus as well as an LED flash as standard, whilst also providing the opportunity to record video with the same camera. In addition a secondary 2.0 megapixel camera is provided as standard. The unit also comes with an array of Google related features, organiser, an MP 4/MP3 multimedia plan as well as Adobe Flash player 10.1, document viewer and predictive text input as well as a variety of games.
