In addition to the full QWERTY keyboard the handset utilises an ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz processor with the Maemo 5 operating system. Surprisingly, although the handset incorporates a wide variety of functionality it is relatively compact at only 110 mm x 59 mm wide and 18 mm thick.
Connectivity, within this handset comes in the form of GPRS and EDGE, both of which are class 32 whilst the integrated micro-USB, Bluetooth and infrared ports provide additional means of connectivity. As you would expect with a handset incorporating this advanced level of technology, internet access is suitably quick at speeds of up to 10 Mbps, which is available through its HSDPA connection. In addition the Wi Fi connection provides the means to access a wide variety of hotspots. Satellite navigation is provided by the GPS function, which incorporates Ovi maps and comes with A-GPS support.
The handsets 3.5 inch TFT touch screen delivers excellent performance by virtue of its 16 million colour display capabilities, offering excellent clarity of image and colour rendition. The inclusion of accelerometer and proximity sensors provide automation in the form of automatic shut off, to save battery power as well as image orientation. The full QWERTY keyboard provides excellent means of entering data and is both responsive and simple to use.
The Nokia N900 also comes with an impressive 5.0 megapixel camera that incorporates quality throughout by virtue of its use of Carl Zeiss optics. To aid photo taking, the camera provides auto focus, geo-tagging as well as illumination options by virtue of the enclosed dual LED flash. In addition the handset provides a photo editor, which offers the ability to edit images on the move. The camera doubles up as a video capture device offering WVGA quality video at 848 x 480 pixels and at 25 frames per second whilst ensuring sufficient illumination by virtue of the built-in video light feature. A secondary camera is also included.
The handset offers an MP4/MP3 media player, stereo FM radio, which includes an FM transmitter, as well as several games. In addition Skype and Google talk VoIP integration are also included offering free and cheap phone calls.
The Nokia N900 much like the Nokia 6760 is an effective and useful mobile phone, which offers an impressive array of functionality. With 32 GB of internal memory, it is able to hold a wide range of media, which enables the handset to be utilised for a variety of tasks.
