We have been hearing plenty of speculation surrounding the next generation iPhone devices set to be released over the coming months by Apple. It is expected that we will see the iPhone 5S hit shelves later this summer and this will be followed by the launch of the iPhone 6 in 2014. According to one US survey the release of these two handsets could lead to Apple dominating the smartphone market.

US company the Yankee Group have recently conducted a survey of smartphone users and the results make for very interesting reading. In total 16000 smartphone users were questioned and of this number a massive 91 per cent of those currently using an iPhone device stated that they would be upgrading to either the iPhone 5S or the iPhone 6 when they are released. Only 6 per cent of Apple users said that they would consider a switch to a rival Android handset. On the flip side of the coin just 76 per cent of Android users stated that they would stick with Google’s popular platform. 18 per cent on the other hand said that they would be switching to one of the new iOS handsets that are set to be released. From these results the Yankee Group have predicted that by the end of 2015 iOS would lead the smartphone market with a 37 per cent share in comparison to 34 per cent held by Android. It looks as though the excellent consumer loyalty created by Apple will ensure that over the coming years their platform continues to grow. Speaking about the results the Yankee Group issued a statement, part of which reads “‘Think of the Apple and Android ecosystems as two buckets of water. New smartphone buyers- mostly upgrading feature phone owners- fall like rain into the two big buckets about equally, with a smaller number falling into Windows Phone and BlackBerry buckets. However, the Android bucket leaks badly, losing about one in five of all the owners put into it”. We are expecting to see the iPhone 5S arrive later this year. Despite no major changes in design the model is set to include a wealth of new features and the new iOS7 operating system. The iPhone 6 will be the next model to introduce a brand new design and it is also rumoured that Apple will be looking to increase the display size from 4 inches on this model. Apple’s share of the smartphone market looks set to grow and this is thanks to the excellent brand loyalty that the company generates. The introduction of the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6 should ensure that the iOS platform overtakes Android before we say goodbye to 2015.
